Steven M. Rae

Steven M. Rae was born and raised in western Massachusetts, has traveled across the country and is currently living in southwest Florida.

As a young boy, he was inspired by his great grandfather, John Zukowski. John made beautiful fruit bowls from apple wood, crafted unique lamps from driftwood and palm trees, and carved multiple wood statues, including 3 totem poles. Steven loved to spend time with him in his workshop, learning how to use wood chisels and understanding the nuances of carving wood.  Steven enjoys and has explored wood carvings, stone sculptures, clay, stained glass, and photography.  Over time, he decided that he was most inspired by oil painting and found that medium as his favorite.

Many of his early paintings were custom-made for family or friends and included replicas of their homes, woodlands and other favorites.  His preferred subjects include majestic landscapes and objects in nature as well as working from photographs taken while traveling. His work is very detail-oriented.

Steven worked as a painter/paperhanger/glazer for twenty years, in residential and commercial settings. In his work, he was able to further develop his talents. He provided clients with graphic designs, faux finishes, and specialty painting such as logos and sign work.  During this time, he also studied art at local community colleges and continued to take classes.
